Reglan is a prescription medication that is used to treat conditions including gastroesophageal reflux and gastroparesis. Reglan contains the drug metoclopramide which works by increasing muscle contractions in the digestive tract. This helps to increase the rate that the stomach empties.

Common side effects of Reglan include but are not limited to:

• Nausea or vomiting.
• Headaches.
• Confusion.
• Lack of energy.
• Restlessness.
• Feeling tired, drowsy, or having sleeping problems.

Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of metoclopramide:

• New or unusual uncontrollable muscle movements.
• Uncontrollable facial movements including tongue movement, frowning, chewing, lip-smacking, blinking, or eye movement.
• Shortness of breath.
• Shaking or tremors in the arms or legs.
• Slow or jerky muscle movements.
• Walking difficulty or balance problems.
• Seizures.
• Anxiety, agitation, or a jittery feeling.
• Swelling or rapid weight gain.
• A mask-like appearance.
• Signs of a severe nervous system reaction including fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, rigid muscles, sweating, confusion, feeling like you might pass out, tremors, or high fever.
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Reglan?

If you miss a dose of Reglan, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

What else is Reglan called?

Reglan is also known as Maxolon internationally. Maxolon is the same brand name medication with a different name internationally and is not a generic alternative medication. Generic Reglan is called metoclopramide.
