Why is Levitra prescribed?

Levitra (Vardenafil HCl) is a medication used to treat Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in men. ED is the inability to get or keep an erection up. Vardenafil works, in combination with sexual stimulation, by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis allowing increased blood flow where it is needed. This medicine does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases and one should take precautions in practising safe sex. Speak with your doctor or pharmacist for more details. 

What is the most effective way to take Levitra?

Use Levitra exactly as directed by your doctor. Ensure you read and understand all the information provided to you by your doctor and/or pharmacist. 

• It comes as a tablet to take by mouth
• Take with or without food 
• Take only when needed, usually an hour before sexual activity

Note:

• this medicine is a supplement to getting an erection, one will not just occur by taking this tablet
• if you experience a painful or prolonged (lasting 4+ hours) erection, contact your doctor immediately or seek emergent medical help

Before using Vardenafil HCL,

• tell your doctor if you are allergic to or any other drug allergies you have
• tell your doctor about every other medication you are taking or plan to take (including nonprescription and herbal products)
• tell your doctor about your current and past medical condition such as: if you smoke, if you have ever had an erection lasting more than 4 hours; diabetes; high or low blood pressure; cancer of any kind; severe vision loss; or if you have ever been advised by a health care professional to avoid sexual activity for medical reasons

Do not use Levitra if:

• you are under the age of 18
• you are also taking a nitrate medicine as this can cause a severe and sudden drop in blood pressure
• you take other drugs to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension 

Common side effects include but are not limited to:

• headache
• stomach upset
• stuffy/runny nose or other flu-like symptoms

More serious side effects can occur. STOP taking Vardenafil and tell your doctor immediately if you experience:

• painful or prolonged (lasting 4+ hours) erection
• any sudden changes to your vision i.e. blurred vision or change in color
• any sudden changes to your hearing i.e. ringing in the ears
• dizziness
• fainting
• any signs of an allergic reaction - including rash; hives, hoarseness, difficulty breathing

Call your doctor if you have any other unusual or worrisome issues while taking Vardenafil.
