What is Zyloprim?

Zyloprim is a prescription medication that is used to treat conditions including gout and certain types of kidney stones. Zyloprim may also be used to increase the level of uric acid in patients receiving cancer chemotherapy. Zyloprim contains the drug allopurinol and works by reducing the amount of uric acid produced by the body.

  • New or worsening joint pain
  • Painful urination

  • Eye irritation or vision changes
  • Signs of a kidney stone such as bloody urine or pain in the belly or back
  • Signs of a kidney problem including changes to your amount of urine, difficulty urinating, bloody urine, or large weight gain
  • Signs of a severe skin reaction including red, blistered, swollen, or peeling skin, fever, eye irritation, or sores on the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes
  • Signs of a low blood cell count including fever, sore throat, chills, severe tiredness, weakness, or unexplained bleeding or bruising
  • Signs of a liver problem including dark urine, stomach pain, upset stomach, clay-colored stools, tiredness, loss of appetite, vomiting, or jaundice
  • Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat
