Get medical help if you have any of the following side effects of allopurinol:

• Swollen glands
• Large weight gain, swelling in the arms or legs, or shortness of breath
• New or worsening joint pain
• Painful urination
• Chest pain or pressure
• Eye irritation or vision changes
• Signs of a kidney stone such as bloody urine or pain in the belly or back
• Signs of a kidney problem including changes to your amount of urine, difficulty urinating, bloody urine, or large weight gain
• Signs of a severe skin reaction including red, blistered, swollen, or peeling skin, fever, eye irritation, or sores on the mouth, throat, nose, or eyes
• Signs of a low blood cell count including fever, sore throat, chills, severe tiredness, weakness, or unexplained bleeding or bruising
• Signs of a liver problem including dark urine, stomach pain, upset stomach, clay-colored stools, tiredness, loss of appetite, vomiting, or jaundice
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives, or swelling in your face, lips, or throat

What should I do if I miss a dose of Zyloprim?

If you miss a dose of Zyloprim, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip your missed dose.

Is there a generic alternative to Zyloprim?

Generic Zyloprim is known as allopurinol. Generic Zyloprim is available in strengths of 100mg and 300mg. Only the brand name Zyloprim is available in 200mg.
