What is Vesicare?

Vesicare and the generic alternative Solifenacin are used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder such as incontinence and frequent or urgent urination. Overactive bladder is a condition where the bladder muscles contract uncontrollably and Vesicare works by relaxing these muscles improving your ability to control your urination.

Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication.

• Take Vesicare with a full glass of liquid, either with or without food. This medication should be swallowed whole.
• Vesicare is usually taken once daily.
• Take Vesicare regularly to get the most benefit from it.
• Your Vesicare dosage is based on factors including your medical condition, response to treatment and other medications you take. Do not change or increase your solifenacin dosage unless advised by a doctor.

Make sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you have any drug allergies.
• Which other prescription and non-prescription medications you currently take.
• Your medical history especially of urination difficulties, bladder problems, blockage or slowed movement of the stomach or intestines, liver or bowel disease, constipation, kidney disease, enlarged prostate or myasthenia.

• If you are pregnant, planning on pregnancy or breast feeding.

Also be aware that:

• Vesicare may make you sweat less which can make you more likely to get sun stroke. Avoid actions which may make you overheat such as using hot tubs or exercising in hot weather. Dress lightly and drink plenty of fluids during hot weather.
• Vesicare may make you drowsy, dizzy or blur your vision. You should not drive, operate machinery or carry out any other activity requiring alertness until you are sure you can do it safely. Alcohol or marijuana can increase your dizziness and drowsiness. Avoid taking Vesicare and alcohol or marijuana.
• Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects of Vesicare.

Common solifenacin side effects may include but are not limited to:

• Blurred vision.
• Dry mouth.
• Painful or burning urination.
• Constipation.
• Signs of heat stroke such as decreased sweating, dizziness, tiredness, feeling hot or nausea.

Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following Vesicare side effects:

• Severe stomach pain or constipation lasting more than three days.
• Confusion or hallucinations.
• Vision changes, eye pain or seeing halos around lights.
• Little or no urination.
• Signs of dehydration such as feeling thirsty or hot, heavy sweating, hot and dry skin or being unable to urinate.
• Signs of a high potassium level such as nausea, weakness, tingly feelings, chest pain, irregular heartbeats or a loss of movement.
