What is Thyroid?

Thyroid (Desiccated Thyroid) is a medication containing a combination of hormones which are normally produced by your thyroid gland to regulate your body’s energy and metabolism. This medication is used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone by itself. Symptoms of hypothyroidism can include a lack of energy, depression, constipation, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, dry or coarse hair, muscle cramps, decreased concentration, aches and pains, swelling of the legs or an increased sensitivity to cold.

• Thyroid should be taken orally and is typically taken once a day before breakfast.
• You should not change or increase your thyroid medication unless advised by a doctor. Your doctor may start you on a low dose and gradually increase it.

• Headaches.
• Nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting or diarrhea.
• Hyperactivity, anxiety, irritability, rapid mood changes.
• Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
• Flushing.
• Increased appetite
• Fever.
• Changes to your menstrual cycle.
• Muscle weakness.

Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects of Thyroid:

• Signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing or a swelling of your face, lips or throat.
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat.
• Excessive sweating.
• Sensitivity or intolerance to heat.
• Nervousness.
• Seizures.
