What are Alphagan Eye drops?

Alphagan P (brimonidine tartate) is an eye drop used to reduce the pressure inside the eyes of people who have open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Brimonidine is an alpha agonist which works by allowing better fluid drainage in the eye which reduces the amount of fluid in the eye decreasing pressure inside the eye.

• To apply this medication, tilt your head back, looking upwards and away. Pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket. Holding the dropper directly above your eye, insert one drop. Close your eyes and gently apply pressure with a finger in the corner of your eye near your nose to prevent any medication from draining out. Keep your eyes closed for one to two minutes. Repeat these steps for your other eye if necessary.
• Your Alphagan Eye Drops dosage is based on your medical condition and your response to treatment. Do not change your dosage or the frequency you take this medication unless advised by a doctor.
• If your wear contact lenses remove them before using Alphagan and wait at least fifteen minutes after using the medication before putting them back in.
• If you also use any other eye medication, then wait at least five minutes before using any other medications. You should use eye drops before using any eye ointments.
• Brimonidine is most effective when it is taken regularly. Try to take this medication at the same time each day and continue to take it even if you do not have any symptoms. Tell your doctor if your condition worsens.

Make sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist:

• If you have any drug allergies.
• Which other prescription and non-prescription medications you currently take.
