What is Tazorac Cream?

Tazorac Cream (Tazarotene) is a prescription medication used to treat psoriasis or acne. Tazarotene Cream helps your skin to renew itself more quickly improving the appearance and texture if your skin. Tazorac is a retinoid product which is related to Vitanin A and works by affecting the growth of skin cells.

Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication.

  • Tazorac Cream should only be used on the skin. Wash and dry your hands and the affected area before applying the cream.
  • Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and gently rub the medication in.
  • Tazorac Cream is typically used once daily in the evening. Your Tazorac dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not use more than your prescribed dosage or more regularly than directed. Your condition will not improve quicker but the risk of side effects will increase.
  • Avoid getting Tazarotene in your eyes, mouth or vagina or on your eyelids or lips. If this occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Do not apply Tazorac Cream to cut, scraped, sunburned eczema-affected or normal, healthy skin.
  • Once applied, wash your hands, unless the medication is used to treat your hands. . Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area once medication is applied.
  • If you also use a moisturizing cream or lotion, then wait at least an hour after before applying this medication.
  • Tazorac Cream is most effective when used regularly.
  • Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens.


Make sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist:

  • If you have any drug allergies.
  • Which other prescription and non-prescription medications you currently take.
  • Your medical history especially of other skin conditions such as eczema, sunburn or sun sensitivity.
  • If you are breast feeding.

Also be aware that:

  • Tazorac Ceram must not be used during pregnancy. Women who could become pregnant should have a negative pregnancy result within the last two weeks before starting to take this medication. It can also be absorbed through the skin and may harm an unborn baby. Pregnant women should not handle this medication.
  • Tazorac Cream can make you more sensitive to the sun. You should limit your time in the sun and wear sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. If you do get sunburned, wait until your skin has completely recovered from sunburn before using this medication again.
  • Extreme weather such as wind and cold may be irritating to your skin.
  • Avoid using tanning booths and sunlamps and electrolysis, waxing and chemical depilatories for hair removal while using this medication.

Side Effects of Tazorac Cream

Common Tazorac Cream side effects may include but are not limited to:

  • Dry, scaly or peeling skin.
  • Itching or irritation of the treated skin.
  • Skin redness or burning.

Contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects of Tazorac Cream:

  • Severe skin irritation including burning, stinging or itching after application.
  • Severe redness or discomfort.
  • Blistering or peeling skin.
  • Signs of a skin infection such as swelling, warmth or oozing.
  • Signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing or a swelling of your face, lips or throat.



Q: Can I moisturize while using Tazorac Cream?

A: Yes. If you also use a moisturizing cream or lotion, wait at least an hour before you apply this medication.

 Q: Can I use Tazorac Cream if I have eczema?

A: No. You should not apply Tazorac Cream to cut, scraped, sunburned eczema-affected or normal, healthy skin.
