What is Combivent?

Ipratropium/Albuterol Inhaler is the generic alternative to Combivent and is a combination inhaler used to prevent the tightening and narrowing of the airways in people who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This combination medication is used by people whose symptoms such as wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, and coughing have not been controlled by a single inhaled medication. Both ipratropium and albuterol are bronchodilators.

Always read the patient information and instructions carefully before using this medication.

  • This inhaler is typically used four times daily. Your doctor may also direct you to use this inhaler for wheezing or shortness of breath. You should always follow your doctor’s directions and should not change or increase your Combivent dosage unless advised by a doctor. Your dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Do not use more than 6 inhalations of this medication within a 24 hour period.
  • Rinse your mouth after using this medication.
  • This inhaler is most effective when used regularly at evenly spaced intervals.
